"The Key to Their Success... is in Your Old Car"
Vehicles For Change is a community initiative helping to change the lives of low income families in Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C., serving the community since October 1999. Transportation is the main barrier to employment for low income families. Your car donation provides the vehicles they need to get to work, daycare, doctors appointments, etc. Help get someone started. Donate a "Vehicle" For Change.
Helping People get SomewhereEmployment is the natural benefit of owning a car but the family structure is strengthened as well. Studies show that 73% of car donation recipients obtained better jobs within 12 months and increase their salaries by $4,800. Recipients are also able to give their children more opportunities than ever. According to our study, 94% take their children to after school, athletic and community activities never before possible. Vehicles For Change also helps expand the labor pool. It makes sound financial sense and good social sense for everyone. Here's How it WorksA business or individual calls to donate a vehicle. One of our Vehicles For Change tow trucks promptly picks it up free of charge and issues a receipt to the donor. The vehicle is taken to the Vehicles For Change garage where it is reviewed and potentially repaired. Cars that are not in such condition that they can be offered to a low income family are sold at auction. One hundred percent of the proceeds are used to repair other donated cars that are provided to these families. Our car donation program rewards others and gives you to qualify for the full fair market value for your car. Learn how to donate your vehicle to VFC using our online form, or print our form and fax to 410-242-9677. Or, call 1-800-835-3821.
On the Road to Self-sufficiencyQualified recipients are identified through "social service" type agencies and are screened to meet income and employment requirements. The recipients buy their car for an average cost of $1000 with a Vehicles For Change guaranteed loan, which helps them establish credit. Each recipient receives a six-month/6,000 mile warrantee, and must attend a safe driving orientation class provided by VFC.VFC awarded its first car in October 1999 in Carroll County. Since then over 1,600 cars have been awarded, changing the lives of over 4,800 individuals. Cars have been awarded in Carroll, Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Montgomery Counties, Baltimore City, Washington DC, Northern Virginia and the Richmond area. Over 400 cars were awarded in 2007, changing the lives of an additional 1200 individuals in these areas. You Can HelpIf you have an unwanted vehicle… donate it. If you have a repair facility, you can donate your labor. If you are a business, you can donate vehicles from your fleet and encourage employees and customers to do the same. You can also make a financial contribution to fund program expansion and offset the cost of repairs. It's a great way to give back to the community where you work and live.Making it PossibleVehicles For Change relies on contributions from its partners, which include auto parts companies, garages, suppliers, financial institutions, social service agencies, businesses and citizens who donate cars. Everyone benefits. It's an easy, rewarding way to dispose of unwanted cars. It's a community relations effort that is simple for partners to implement and sustain.Interested in helping us help others in need?
