Vehicles for Change Automotive Careers
The Center for Automotive Careers (CAC) is a new program component of Vehicles for Change (VFC) that serve individuals from the Baltimore area. The goal of CAC is to train unemployed and underemployed individuals for jobs in automotive services.
The CAC currently consists of an automotive detail training program. In 2015, the program added a paid internship program for men and women who are ASE certified who were recently released from prison.
Auto Detailing Training Components
Students are trained for 8 days, Mondays through Thursdays, for 2 consecutive weeks. Training is provided by a full-time detail instructor who uses the 12- Step Meguiar’s protocols. Fridays are reserved for your personal business.
Students who successfully complete training and graduate are given a 4-week, paid apprenticeship opportunity at VFC and detail cars being awarded to families and cars being sold on VFC’s retail used car lot Freedom Wheels.

How to Apply for Training
Applicants for training will need to have completed job-readiness training at one of our community partners:
- The Center for Urban Families/STRIVE
- Associated Catholic Charities
- The Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Employment Development
- The Baltimore County Office of Workforce Development
Applicants will need to remain an active participant with our community partner and have a case manager. We will gladly connect you to one of these agencies.
Job placement starts with the paid apprenticeship phase of training. While you are an apprentice, detail companies are invited to come to VFC, see your detail work and do job interviews. Your community agency also helps with job placement and you are expected to conduct your own job search.
Training Location & Hours
Training takes place at VFC’s headquarters, 4111 Washington Boulevard, Halethorpe, MD 21227. This location is served by MTA’s Route 36. Parking is available for students who drive.
Training and internship hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Thursday. You will need to provide your own lunches and are expected to be on time. Students who are late 3 times will be dismissed. A no-call, no show may lead to program dismissal.
VFC will provide each student with 2 T-shirts. Students will need to wear clothing suitable for washing and detailing cars.
If you need additional information or wish to become a community partner, call or email Phil Holmes at 410.242.9674 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
