A Partner in Change – Perry’s Story
February 28, 2025
Perry’s personal connection to VFC’s mission runs deep. “This is an amazing organization, helping people to make the next step in their lives,” he says, reflecting on how important reliable transportation can be. He adds, “Personally, I wish this program was around when I was young.” Having grown up with divorced parents, Perry knows all too well the challenges of not having a reliable vehicle. “It made traveling anywhere extremely difficult,” he explains. That’s why he’s so passionate about supporting the recipients, knowing how much a vehicle can change someone’s life.
For Perry, the most rewarding part of working with VFC is seeing the genuine happiness and appreciation from the recipients. “I give my cell phone to all my clients who are awarded a car,” he says, explaining that for many, this is their very first vehicle. With it comes excitement but also questions and concerns. “There’s always stress, but happiness is the one emotion that outshines them all,” Perry says. He enjoys helping recipients through the insurance process, ensuring they feel supported during this big life change.
Perry sees firsthand the impact that Vehicles for Change has on the community. He points out the limitations not having a vehicle imposes on emergency situations and employment opportunities. Perry is proud to be part of that process, knowing that the work he does has a lasting effect.
As he reflects on his involvement with Vehicles for Change, Perry hopes to see the organization continue to grow and reach even more people in need. “I hope to see them continue helping people with transportation and employment/job skills,” he says. He’s excited to stay involved and remain a part of this impactful mission for years to come.
When asked about his first car, Perry laughs as he remembers his mustard yellow 1970s Datsun B-210 hatchback with a 4-speed manual transmission. Despite its many flaws, it was his first car, and he was “super happy” to have it. He fondly remembers the sense of independence it gave him, much like the cars that Vehicles for Change provides for its recipients.
Vehicles for Change is grateful for partners like Perry Kurz’s story is one of dedication and compassion, and his partnership with Vehicles for Change has truly made a difference in the lives of countless individuals. Here’s to 25 years of changing lives—and the many more to come.
