A Legacy of Giving and Growth – Tony’s Story
March 7, 2025A Lifetime of Service and Giving
Tony’s story begins with a lifetime of service and a commitment to empowering others. He brings more than 30 years of experience in employee development and vocational training. Throughout his career, he has believed in the power of practical skills. In the late 1990s, he created a pre-employment training program after seeing how vocational training helps people find meaningful work. His mother reinforced that belief, urging him to learn as many skills as possible. “There are plenty of jobs out there,” she often said.
From Donor to Owner
When a driver ran a red light and totaled Tony’s 21-year-old car, he suddenly needed a replacement. That’s when Vehicles for Change stepped in and invited him to visit the Freedom Wheels retail lot. There, Tony found a reliable vehicle—one that fit his needs as he prepared for retirement.
Tony chose to donate his old car to Vehicles for Change, even though it was no longer drivable. While the vehicle couldn’t be awarded to a family, it went to auction. The proceeds now help fund programs that provide cars, training, and job opportunities to individuals working to rebuild their lives.
Tony’s Commitment to Spreading the VFC Mission
Tony’s relationship with Vehicles for Change didn’t stop there. He became an advocate for the organization and referred a former student to the program. That student later received a vehicle, creating another path to stability and success.
“Once I purchased my vehicle—a wonderful little car that marks a new chapter in my life as a retiree—it was an easy decision to donate my old one back,” Tony shared. “The work Vehicles for Change does is truly inspiring, and I’m proud to support their mission.”
Through his generosity and continued advocacy, Tony now plays a role in the ripple effect that has helped Vehicles for Change thrive for more than 25 years.
