The Power of Transportation – Adrianna’s Story

Life was a constant challenge for Adrianna before she received her vehicle from Vehicles for Change. Residing in an area with limited public transportation, grocery shopping, taking her children to doctor’s appointments, or commuting to work became stressful and uncertain.

“We do not have a lot of transportation options where I live. Public buses aren’t reliable, and Ubers and Lyfts are expensive. I have two children, so not being able to get up and go when I needed to was hard.”

The lack of transportation forced Adrianna to make heartbreaking sacrifices. “My son couldn’t participate in sports. I had to miss important training sessions at work because I couldn’t get there. I even had to pay extra for grocery deliveries, and those costs added up fast.”

Adrianna learned about Vehicles for Change through her aunt. “I decided to apply, and when I got approved, I was ecstatic. I jumped up and down,” she said. “It was like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders.” Even her children shared in her excitement. Her 11-year-old son understood that having his mom own a car would change her life.

In January 2024, Adrianna received a stunning Kia at an award ceremony hosted by the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA). The NADA executive team was so inspired by Adriana and her family’s story that they chose to follow her car ownership journey for six months after the award.

Adrianna shared that instantly, she could drive her daughter to daycare, her son to football practices and games, and she could arrive to work without added stressors. Her first drive? A simple yet freeing trip to the grocery store.

Beyond the practical benefits, the car gave Adrianna and her children the ability to enjoy life. “We can go to the museum or the zoo and visit our family more often.”
