How to Request a Vehicles For Change Car

Are you on the road to self-sufficiency but struggle with transportation? Are you ready to gain access to better employment opportunities and enjoy personal independence? Vehicles for Change may be able to help you get there!

We receive car donations from public, our ASE certified master mechanics oversee making them “road ready”, and then we award them at affordable prices to eligible families in Maryland and Virginia.

Please note that each sponsoring agency may have their own eligibility requirements. If you meet the conditions below, you can apply through your local Department of Social Services. To view the list of partnering organizations, click here.

 

To qualify for a vehicle, you must meet the following basic criteria.

  • You must be a resident or Maryland or Northern Virginia
  • You must be referred by one of the sponsoring agencies listed here.
  • You must have a verifiable job offer or be working at least 30 hours a week.
  • You must have a driver’s license in the state in which you reside
  • You must be insurable (no DWIs or DUIs)
  • You must not have any other vehicle in your household
  • You must be drug free
  • You must be able to cover fees for taxes, tags, and title (approximately an additional $500)
  • If you are under the age of 25, you must have children
  • You may need to meet additional criteria required by your sponsoring agency.

If one of the situations below applies to you, you may choose the MD and VA Transportation Assistance Program (TAP) as your Sponsoring Agency. 

    • A recipient of Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) funds within the past 12 months.
    • Be a non-custodial parent of a TCA recipient within the past 12 months
    • Be a youth aging out of the foster care system

Maryland & Northern Virginia

Families that live in Maryland or Northern Virginia (north of Fredericksburg, Virginia) should work with a local social service agency. Click here to view the list of sponsoring agencies.
