New Minivan Mom Helps Detroit Parents and Schools

Detroit resident Betsy Beltran, her husband and two teenage daughters previously lived life without a vehicle to call their own. Betsy works as a Parent Organizer for 14 Detroit Public Schools that require her to travel every day for meetings and training sessions. A family member would often drop Beltran off at work, but she needed her own car in order to keep her job.

In January 2016, Vehicles for Change, in partnership with Wayne Metro Community Action Agency, awarded Betsy a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan.

Vehicle ownership allows Betsy to continue her important role in the community and in the Detroit Public School system. “Every day my job allows me to change a parent’s life, which in turn improves my life,” said Betsy on the impact of having her own vehicle.
