A Legacy of Giving and Growth – Tony’s Story

Tony’s story is rooted in a lifetime of service and a passion for empowering others. With over 30 years of experience in employee development and vocational training, Tony has always believed in the power of skill-building. He developed a pre-employment training program in the late 90s, recognizing the vital role vocational skills play in helping people secure meaningful employment. His mother, a constant source of wisdom, always reminded him to learn as many skills as possible—because, as she said, “there are plenty of jobs out there.” 

When Tony’s car, a 21-year-old vehicle, was totaled after being hit by someone running a red light, he found himself in need of a replacement. That’s when the team at Vehicles for Change stepped in, offering him an opportunity to explore their Freedom Wheels retail lot. After a visit to the lot, he found the perfect replacement—a dependable vehicle that would serve him well as he transitioned into retirement. 

In a generous move, Tony donated his old car, which was no longer drivable to Vehicles for Change. Although the car couldn’t be awarded to a family, it was sent to auction, with the proceeds helping fund Vehicles for Change’s programs that provide individuals with the tools to rebuild their lives through vehicles, training, and job opportunities. 

Tony’s connection with Vehicles for Change didn’t end there. He became an advocate for the program, referring a former student to the organization, who, after applying, was awarded a vehicle. This act of kindness demonstrates Tony’s belief in the organization and its ability to change lives, just as it had changed his own. 

“Once I purchased my vehicle, a wonderful little car that marks the start of a new chapter in my life as a retiree, it was an easy decision to donate my old vehicle back to the organization,” Tony shared. “The work Vehicles for Change does is truly inspiring, and I’m proud to support their mission.” 

Through his donation and continued advocacy, Tony has become part of the positive effect of generosity that has made Vehicles for Change thrive for 25 years.
