Suppose you are new to Maryland or purchase a car, truck, or SUV from an out-of-state dealer or a private party. In that case, you will are required to perform a Maryland State Inspection to register your vehicle, obtain tags, and secure the title from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Association (MVA).

Maryland law allows 30 days or 1,000 miles to complete any repairs needed to pass inspection. Repairs completed in the specified time frame will be electronically transmitted to MVA with a certificate of compliance.
