Giving to Essential Workers During COVID-19

During the COVID-19 pandemic, having access to personal transportation is more important than ever, especially for essential employees.  Essential employees are defined as employees designated in an occupational class who must report to work during a period of liberal leave and general emergencies such as this COVID-19 crisis. Vehicles for Change is proud to award vehicles to essential workers who are risking their lives during the worldwide epidemic.

To celebrate our 20th year anniversary our team partnered with Heritage | MileOne Autogroup to donate 20 cars to 20 families for our highly anticipated “20 for 20” event. Nine of the vehicles were awarded to essential healthcare workers including essential worker Listra (pictured above) at Northwest Hospital Center. In addition, we also awarded vehicles to a homecare nurse, several medical coding and billing professionals, overnight security personnel, a Community Support Assistant for The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, and members of the Environmental Services and Patient Service Department at Johns Hopkins.

At Vehicles for Change, we understand the value of transportation. Our mission of empowering low-income families to achieve economic and personal independence through car ownership and technical training has continued to add value to the community during the pandemic. Personal transportation allows individuals the opportunity to protect their health and safety. Having access to personal transportation is a tool that allows families the opportunity for financial stability as well as something necessary to help social distance. We have successfully helped families avoid the dangers of public transportation and allow them to conveniently and safely continue to work. In June we received 193 vehicle donations, but in total, we awarded 250 vehicles for our 20th year. Our mission of changing families’ lives is strong and ongoing. We are working hard to help more families and essential workers. Donate your vehicle and be a Healthcare heroes’ superhero.
