Vehicles for Change on the Move: A Letter from the President

VFC will be relocating, a few miles down the road from our current location, to 4111 Washington Blvd in Halethorpe, Maryland. We have purchased a 33,000 square foot building; this includes 4,000 square feet of office space, and the remainder is warehouse.  It also includes 1.5 acres of paved parking.

The VFC program has grown consistently in the past 6 years. In 2012 we will award 480 cars to worthy families, which is the second highest year of car awards in our history. Our current location gave us the opportunity to build our used car business, Freedom Wheels, which has allowed the VFC program to become financially stable. This stability has spurred additional growth and we have outgrown our current home.

Our new location will house the VFC office staff, a new eight-bay repair center and a storage facility for the donated automobiles. In addition, the new building will provide the opportunity to create an automotive training center where individuals will be trained in repair, detailing, auto parts sales and other car-related fields. The training center will allow VFC to help individuals enter into a career field where employment opportunities are plentiful and they can earn a living wage.

VFC is working closely with our new neighbors to provide a facility that will be a cornerstone of the neighborhood. New paint, landscaping and a good scrubbing are all planned for the building.

This has been a dream of mine since starting VFC in 1999 and I am excited to be able to realize it. The new facility will spur a new era of growth for the program and for the wonderful families that we serve.

Thank you to our donors and partners. Your continuing support has helped make our growth and move possible.
