Ford Explorer Simplifies Life for Young Family

Lauren Sowell has her hands full as a single mom of a one-year old son with a chronic asthma condition. Yet her life is further complicated because she has not been able to afford a vehicle of her own. Without convenient, reliable transportation, getting her son to and from Head Start is a challenge. Getting herself back and forth to work the night shift as a nurse is even harder.

In July 2015, Vehicles for Change, in partnership with Matrix Human Services, awarded Lauren a 2005 Ford Explorer.

With her vehicle, Lauren immediately increased her hours at work. This began to increase her income and gave her more time with her son. Laurenโ€™s new independence is inspiring her to imagine greater career opportunities in the nursing industry.
