Ford Explorer Simplifies Life for Young Family

Lauren Sowell has her hands full as a single mom of a one-year old son with a chronic asthma condition. Yet her life is further complicated because she has not been able to afford a vehicle of her own. Without convenient, reliable transportation, getting her son to and from Head Start is a challenge. Getting herself back and forth to work the night shift as a nurse is even harder.

In July 2015, Vehicles for Change, in partnership with Matrix Human Services, awarded Lauren a 2005 Ford Explorer.

With her vehicle, Lauren immediately increased her hours at work. This began to increase her income and gave her more time with her son. Lauren’s new independence is inspiring her to imagine greater career opportunities in the nursing industry.
